I started writing PortAid in 2006, since then Vista and Windows 7 have been release. The virtual serial port emulator used by PortAid is only supported with XP. As a consequence a better solution is required.
Eterlogic provides a free Virtual Serial Ports Emulator that does everything that PortAid does and supports XP, Vista and Windows 7.
